My friend Lana from the CUNY Graduate Center was recently featured in a write-up in the NY Newsday and I just had to share it.

It's compelling, informative and personal. Lana brings a lot to the table, as I have witnessed first hand in classes we've taken together, but I could never have guessed what her personal struggles were like. This article gives a sneak peek into a truly eventful life.

On the Pew Center's recent study on American Muslims...

The folks at Pew must be commended for a survey/poll that recently came out on American Muslims. While it may have been long overdue - at least it was done! The results were pleasantly refreshing, too. But I wont bore you with repetitions, and instead, draw your attention to an interesting article that speaks to the phenomenon of why news regarding Muslims is always negative - even when there is good news (such as in the results of the poll)!

The Citizens Foundation fundraiser - 6/13

Join us for an evening of sheesha, appetizers and
dance to benefit The Citizens Foundation, an
organization that funds schools and education programs
for underprivileged children in Pakistan and other
countries. This year's theme is "Year of Sophia", the
NYC area chapter is raising money for the Sophia
School Campus, we have already raised $50K, need
another $40K to start the construction..

He was also elected to serve as the Vice President of the General Assembly, the first Israeli representative in the past 53 years. During his tenure, he has worked closely with members of the European Union and is in constant negotiation with the Secretary General and other delegations in order to help improve Israel's standing in the international community. Prior to his appointment as UN Permanent Representative, he was CEO of several Israeli companies and served as Chairman of the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce. Ambassador Gillerman has played a prominent role in helping to steer Israel towards economic liberalization and a free market economy. He has also been deeply involved in the economic aspects of the peace process and has been intensively engaged in talks with Palestinian and Arab leaders trying to further economic cooperation within the region.
